Festival “Women in Music” – IV edition
The Fourth International Festival “Women in Music” will be held February 23 – March 8, 2026. Organized by the Polish Chamber Musicians’ Association [SPMK], the Festival aims to bring back historical music by women composers and promote their living counterparts. The Festival will be broadcast worldwide on the SPMK YouTube channel during the last week of February and the first week of March.
Having in the past connected music by Polish women with that of specific countries like the United Kingdom and Germany, this year the “Women in Music” Festival will broaden its scope. The program will span four centuries of music, from baroque-era works by Barbara Strozzi to the late romantic compositions of Cécile Chaminade, all the way up to avant-garde creations that use electronics and waterphone.
The Festival’s opening concert will revisit women composers heard in previous editions and each of the subsequent days will be dedicated to a specific composer. Such programming will allow the audiences to become fully immersed in the musical language of each composer. Outstanding Polish artists will participate in this series of concerts, including:
- February 24: Music by Barbara Strozzi performed by Victoria Lerche, Anna Guja, Jan Markowski
- February 25: Music by Cécile Chaminade performed by Książek Piano Duo (Agnieszka Zahaczewska-Książek, Krzysztof Książek)
- February 26: Music by Saskia Venegas-Aeronouts performed by Airis String Quartet (Aleksandra Czajor-Kowalska, Grażyna Zubik, Malwina Tkaczyk, Anna Armatys-Borelli)
- February 27: Music by Anna Dobrucka performed by Zarębski Piano Duo (Grzegorz Mania, Piotr Różański)
- February 28: Music by Joanna Bruzdowicz performed by Piotr Kowal and Paweł Czarakcziew
- March 1: Music by Marta Mołodyńska-Wheeler performed by Monika Gardoń-Preinl, Marta Mołodyńska-Wheeler, Piotr Różański and Grzegorz Mania
- March 2: Music by Thea Musgrave performed by Grzegorz Mania and Monika Gardoń-Preinl
- March 3: Music by Aleksandra Brejza performed by Irena Haich, Marcin Sikorski)
- March 4: Music by Olga Hans performed by the Vivo Trio (Hanna Holeksa, Magdalena Fender, Robert Fender)
- March 5: Music by Irene Regine Poldowski performed by Sylwia Olszyńska, Olga Tsymbaluk
- March 6: Music by Grażyna Bacewicz performed by the Helene Quartet (Katarzyna Gluza, Bartosz Kowalczyk, Michał Edgar Kot, Dominik Drewniak)
- March 7: Music by Sofia Gubaidulina performed by the Mauris Ensemble (Magdalena Di Blasi, Jan Czyżewski, Adrian Nowak)
- March 8: Music by Dominika Łasko performed by Bożena Bechta-Krzemińska, Aleksandra Mikołajczyk-Mokrosz, Dominika Łasko
