Women in Music – 3rd edition
The International Online Festival “Kobiety w Muzyce / Women in Music” – 3rd Edition is a unique event on the cultural map of Poland and the world. The festival continues the cyclical promotion of female composers and their work, aiming to increase cultural participation, support artistic creativity, strengthen identity, and preserve cultural heritage.
A key goal of the project is to restore historical awareness of the role of women in the arts, particularly in music, where female artists began to establish themselves relatively early. One of the pioneers of this emancipation was the Polish composer Maria Szymanowska. Historically, the arts have been strongly male-dominated, and even in music—one of the more open disciplines—few women were able to fully realize their creative ambitions and build professional careers. In this context, Poland stands out as one of the first countries to introduce full gender equality.
The festival promotes Poland as a modern, open country that supports female composers. It showcases the works of women composers from Poland and beyond, emphasizing mutual inspirations, stylistic affinities, and shared experiences.
The third edition of the festival presents a diverse selection of works by composers such as Grażyna Bacewicz, Joanna Bruzdowicz-Tittel, Anna Rocławska-Musiałczyk, Ewelina Nowicka, Olga Hans, Rebecca Clarke, Katarzyna Kwiecień-Długosz, Regine Wieniawski (aka Poldowski), Sylvia Filus, and Fanny Mendelssohn.
The festival, whose performances have been published on YouTube, features renowned Polish musicians, including Marta Gidaszewska, Robert Łaguniak, Magdalena Molendowska, Julia Samojło, Grzegorz Mania, and Piotr Różański. The program also includes premiere recordings.
