Weinberg – Sonatas For Violin And Piano

Weinberg – Sonatas For Violin And Piano

Cultivating tradition while fascinated by modernism – this is how Mieczysław Weinberg’s musical style can be described in a nutshell. Perhaps art that tries to meet the requirements of these two seemingly opposing artistic traditions is doomed to misunderstanding and criticism from the start. For many years, Weinberg’s work was treated as something secondary, anachronistic. From the 1960s to the 1990s, classical music experienced incredibly rapid changes, which were associated with the discovery of the possibilities of electronics, sonoristic and formal experiments, and the emergence of performance art. It is hardly surprising, then, that Weinberg’s music did not fit into this world at all.

“For several years, there has been an increased interest in the work of this great composer, more and more often his works are played on philharmonic stages around the world, and more and more recordings are being made. We are giving you our album with the hope that we have managed to capture and convey our admiration for the unique music of Weinberg” – Maria Sławek.
